The Compressed Gas Association (CGA) has published an update on the initiatives of the International Harmonization Council (IHC), a group that supports the global harmonization of gas industry standards. CGA is a member of the council, along with gas industry associations representing Asia, Europe, and Japan.
At the Council’s most recent meeting, participants discussed a strategic approach to harmonizing hydrogen standards, including the formation of a global task force and engagement in standards arenas including ISO. They also discussed harmonization of sustainability metrics, and work to develop guidance on the application of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index greenhouse gas emissions protocol for the gas industry. Several new harmonization projects were also detailed, including addressing lessons learned from the pandemic and a new position statement on internal inspection requirements for coldbox vessels.
