The American Nuclear Society will hold a webinar on the Department of Defense's Project Pele, which aims to design, build, and demonstrate a prototype mobile nuclear reactor within five years.
“Deploying micro nuclear technology for battlefield and other military applications could have huge impacts on logistics and reliability for the military of the future,” the American Nuclear Society reports. The webinar will offer unique perspectives on the project from two of the program's key leaders.
Panelists will include Joseph Miller, president, BWXT Advanced Technologies LLC, and Jeff Waksman, program manager, Strategic Capabilities Office. Alex Gilbert, director of space and planetary regulation, Zeno Power Systems, will moderate the session.
The Project Pele effort will leverage state-of-the-art technologies and recent advances in nuclear engineering to deliver an inherently safe nuclear reactor. The reactor will be designed to provide reliable and resilient power, while minimizing risk of nuclear proliferation, environmental damage, or harm to nearby personnel or populations, according to the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense, Research and Engineering.
Register for the August 2 webinar via American Nuclear Society’s website.
