A new article published by BOMA International details ways that employers can embrace inclusive workplace designs with consideration of neurodiversity.
Several suggestions are offered to optimize inclusion, including adding acoustic elements for sound absorption, softening harsh lighting, and offering a variety of areas like individual focus spaces, enclosed collaboration zones, and wellness quiet spaces.
Another recommendation is incorporating “moveable walls” or furniture that can be easily arranged to create a free-flowing layout.
“Variety matters,” notes Roslyn zumBrunnen, director of workplace design for Pope Design Group. “The ability to change a space to suit your needs is integral, especially for an individual that may be introverted and may have a hard time communicating in a group environment.”
