UL Standards & Engagement (ULSE) recently released a report that sheds light on leading U.S. consumer concerns about environmental issues, revealing that most consumers want to see industry and advocacy groups champion sustainability efforts.
The report, “Consumer Perceptions on Sustainability & Energy Transition,” reveals the top five important sustainability areas to consumers:
The findings, which reflect a ULSE Insights survey series of a cumulative 4,032 U.S. adults, also reveal that consumers are skeptical of green marketing efforts from brands and want to see “demonstrable” and transparent sustainability actions. To that end, the report underscores the importance of the circular economy and recycling standards, which provide companies with best practices for developing and producing products while eliminating waste, reusing materials, and lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
“Standards foster sustainability by providing consistent and clear frameworks for the design and circularity of products and systems,” said Caitlin D’Onofrio, sustainability program lead, ULSE. “We aim to support innovation and achieve greater sustainability for the companies that adopt our standards and the consumers that trust them.”
