Standards that Make You Want to Waltz Down the Aisle

8/23/2021

It seems that everywhere you turn, couples are tying the knot left and right. With wedding season last summer effectively cancelled, in-person gatherings were shuttered, and many couples postponed their nuptials to this wedding season. According to The Knot’s 2020 Real Weddings Study, nearly 50% of couples who postponed their weddings last year planned to reschedule them in early 2021. Therefore, the increase in weddings this year is the result of two wedding seasons packed into one.

Standards Help Couples Tie the Knot

Once you’ve set the date and place, it’s time to invite your loved ones to share the big day. Despite the ease of online save-the-dates, physical wedding invitations remain popular. The thick cardstock, often beautifully and ornately designed, goes a long way in adding that personal touch to the invitation. Just like every other wedding detail, every aspect of the invitation is meticulously selected before the card goes to the printer.

Once the card is at the printer, INCITS/ISO/IEC 24711-2015 (2018), Method For The Determination Of Ink Cartridge Yield For Colour Inkjet Printers And Multi-Function Devices That Contain Printer Components, evaluates ink cartridge page yield for ink-containing cartridges for colour inkjet print systems. This standard was developed by the International Organization for Standardization / International Electrotechnical Commission (ISO/IEC) Joint Technical Committee (JTC) 1, Information Technology, Subcommittee 28, Office equipment, of which the U.S. is a participating member. The administrator of the ANSI-accredited U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 28 is the InterNational Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS), an ANSI-accredited standards developer. ANSI serves as the secretariat of ISO/IEC JTC 1.

The practice of exchanging wedding rings dates all the way back to the ancient Egyptians, and they remain an important tradition in wedding nuptials today. Wedding rings symbolize a lifelong commitment and they are typically made of precious metals like platinum or gold. However, precious metals are expensive, and today a lot of jewelry is gold-plated, rather than being made of solid gold. ISO 10713:1992, Jewellery -- Gold Alloy Coatings, specifies the coating thickness requirements and the gold fineness of a gold-plate coating. ISO/TC 174, Jewellery and precious metals, developed the standard.

One very important decision when planning a wedding is choosing a photographer, to capture that wedding day feeling forever. Digital cameras have come a long way since they were first invented, and now you can reminisce about your wedding day with your album full of high definition pictures. ANSI/IST IT10.7000-2015, Photography - Digital Still Cameras - Guidelines For Reporting Pixel-Related Specifications, specifies guidelines for reporting pixel-related specifications (e.g., the number of camera pixels) of a digital still camera, for the purposes of camera labeling, packaging, advertising, and more. It is applicable to monochrome and color digital still cameras using one or more image sensors. This standard was developed by theThe Society for Imaging Science and Technology (IS&T) Imaging Technology Committee IT10, Digital Photography.

Although wedding season is almost over, it’s been an eventful one. Whether you attended a wedding this season or were lucky enough to celebrate your own, standards help celebrate love in all its forms.
