Position Summary

The Release Manager understands the Release Management needs of the Institute and brings mature experience in Release Management processes and automation. The Release Manager works as a hands-on, independent resource, and needs to interface and communicate directly with management inside and outside of the Technology Department including Test Manager, Development Leads, Production Operations and PMO on a daily basis. This candidate is responsible for coordinating releases and ensures efficient and successful deployments to the Pre-Production and Production environments. As Release Management is a key focus area for ANSI, the Release Manager continually implements new processes and technologies across the ANSI lines of business and ensure that Release does not become a bottleneck in the Agile Software Development Lifecycle. The Release Manager builds and rolls out and continually improves mature practices for the Institute's Release Strategy, Release Plan and Release Calendar. As the Scrum Teams continue to leverage Agile Methodologies and a DevOps culture, the Release Manager looks for opportunities to introduce more process efficiencies to releases with a strong focus on deployment automation. The Release Manager will integrates these new processes and technologies with the existing DevOps CI/CD Toolchain.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Implement Release Management best practices
  • Support the standardization and rollout of release management processes and services
  • Provide reporting as well as updated to Senior IT Management and the lines of Business
  • Train and enable ANSI's Technology Department and lines of business on new Release Process and Release Automation
  • Responsible for creating and managing the Enterprise Release Calendar and Release Plan outlining the schedule of application releases and deployments planned throughout the year
  • Manage risks and resolves issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality
  • Manage Agile development intake requests and providing forward views of change and work requests to the infrastructure, software development, and CRM Development teams to ensure adequate lead time is available to provision, construct, and configure the infrastructure needed for development, testing, and qualification of a staging and production release.
  • Leverage JIRA for Application Lifecycle Management traceability and Release Automation
  • Understand the deployment and environment requirements for all applications, technology solutions
  • Coordinate with required governance and compliance entities to expedite deployments
  • Work with the Director of DevOps and Agile to support the rollout of DevOps culture and Agile Methodologies
  • Automate deployment processes as much as possible and integrate them into the CI/CD toolchain to achieve continuous delivery of software products
  • Coordinate handoffs with the Production Operations Manager to ensure that support procedures are documented and transitioned

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Capable of enforcing processes and procedures
  • Knowledge of Agile Methodologies and DevOps implementations
  • Advanced knowledge of software development lifecycle
  • Knowledge of Quality Assurance procedures and processes
  • Experience working with Infrastrcuture Operations and Production Operations

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years background working in Information Technology; preferably in DevOps
  • Experience automating production deployment and support processes
  • Experience with design and implementation Deployment Automation
  • Experience with implementing ITIL and CMMI methodologies a strong plus
  • Solid understanding of Application Release engineering and application lifecycle process management.
  • Experience engineering solutions and developing best practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with both internal team members and external business stakeholders
  • Highly motivated, enterprising, excellent team player, also able to work autonomously
  • Strong desire to find ways to improve solutions, systems, and processes and capable of enforcing processes and procedures
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent degree
