ANSI Legal Issues Forum: Standardization and the Cannabis Industry | Overview

As of November 2019, cannabis remains illegal at the federal level, even though 33 states and the District of Columbia have legalized cannabis for medicinal use and 11 states have legalized recreational use. With the continued growth of the cannabis industry and increasing public and political support for broader legalization, ANSI's 2019 Legal Issues Forum discussed a growing need for standardization activities to support public health and safety.

Heather Krug, program manager from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, presented Cannabis: Regulation, Testing and Standardization in the keynote address.

Two panels of legal, scientific, and public health experts explored the legal implications, challenges, and opportunities for standards developing organizations and conformity assessment bodies in light of the shifting legal landscape.
