People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA), an organizational member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced a number of high-level staff appointments:

Chuck Fuqua has been named executive director, strategic communications. In this role he will be responsible for developing and implementing AF&PA's advocacy communications strategy and managing media relations. His previous experience includes positions with the American Frozen Foods Institute, the U.S. Department of Commerce, and the Republican National Convention in New York City, and he began his career in the press gallery at the U.S. House of Representatives. Mr. Fuqua holds a bachelor of arts degree in mass communications from West Georgia College.

Brian Hawkinson has been appointed as AF&PA's executive director, recovered fiber. He will lead the development and implementation of goals, policies, and programs that support a continuing, affordable supply of recovered fiber. Mr. Hawkinson previously held positions at DDC Advocacy, the Public Affairs Council, and the United Way of America. Most recently, he ran his own company, the Hawkinson Group, providing issues-management and advocacy services. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from James Madison University and an M.B.A. from Virginia Tech's Pamplin College of Business.

Ben Bell and Paul Poe have each been named director of AF&PA government affairs. Mr. Bell will be responsible for promoting AF&PA's policy positions on Capitol Hill. He most recently served as senior legislative assistant to Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-NC) and previously as a legislative aide for Rep. Sanford Bishop (D-GA). He also held positions with the National Cattlemen's Beef Association and the Southern Governors' Association. Mr. Bell earned his bachelor's of science from Louisiana State University.

Mr. Poe will be responsible for promoting AF&PA's policy positions in state legislatures. Before joining AF&PA he had his own law practice. He previously served as manager of state government and regulatory affairs for the Williams Company. Mr. Poe earned his B.A. from Brescia University, his M.A. from Drew University, his J.D. from Northern Kentucky University's Salmon P. Chase College of Law, and his L.L.M. from Georgetown University.

AF&PA is a national trade association for the forest products industry whose mission is to advance public policies that promote a strong and sustainable U.S. forest products industry in the global marketplace.


ANSI organizational member and accredited standards developer the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) has announced the appointment of Jennifer E. Cleary as director of regulatory affairs.

Ms. Cleary previously served as AHAM legal counsel as an associate in the antitrust and federal regulation section of the law firm Mintz Levin. She also served a clerk for the Department of Justice, Office of Information and Privacy. She received her B.A. in English from the Pennsylvania State University and received her J.D., from American University's Washington College of Law. Jennifer is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and New York.

AHAM is a non-profit trade association representing manufacturers of major, portable, and floor care home appliances, and suppliers to the industry.
