U.S. Stakeholders Encouraged to Participate in 2013 Fully Networked Car Workshop

2/11/2013
A draft agenda has been released for the eighth annual Fully Networked Car workshop, scheduled to be held in Geneva, Switzerland, on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, in association with the Geneva International Motor Show. The event, which was originally scheduled to take place on March 6-7, will bring together experts and leaders from the automotive industry, standards developing organizations (SDOs), research and development institutes, the ICT community, and academia, as well as other stakeholders involved in the creation of the next generation of automobiles.

The workshop is organized by the World Standards Cooperation (WSC), a partnership comprising the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

ISO is encouraging knowledgeable stakeholder representatives from the U.S. and other countries with active motor vehicle and electric mobility industries to participate. The event will include discussions on electrical vehicle standardization needs and relevant technical challenges, as well as an examination of the progress made in this area since the 2012 workshop. Proceedings will begin with an informal group tour of the Geneva Motor Show's Renault exhibition involving participating car manufacturers, and will conclude with a networking cocktail reception. Organizations taking part in the workshop include Bosch, PayPal, Google, Audi, Panasonic Automotive Systems and SAE International.

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) - which serves as the official U.S. representative to ISO and, via the U.S. National Committee (USNC), to the IEC - is committed to helping stakeholders in their efforts to modernize the automobile. In April 2012, ANSI released a Standardization Roadmap for Electric Vehicles - Version 1.0, , developed by the Institute's Electric Vehicles Standards Panel (EVSP), which assessed the standards, conformance programs, regulations, and training needed to facilitate the safe, effective mass deployment of electric vehicles and charging stations throughout the U.S. The full roadmap is available for free download here. Version 2.0 of the roadmap will be published this year. For more information on the work of the EVSP, visit www.ansi.org/evsp.
