American National Standards Institute (ANSI) member and audited designator the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recently announced the hiring of Shayne Mintz as the association's regional director for Canada. In this new role, Mr. Mintz will work with representatives of local and provincial governmental bodies to promote the adoption of NFPA codes and standards, with the goal of bolstering fire and building safety across Canada.

Prior to joining NFPA, Mr. Mintz served as assistant deputy fire marshal in charge of fire protection services for Canada's Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal. He has worked as a firefighter, fire captain, rescue technician, fire chief, and emergency planning expert during his more-than-35-year career. Mr. Mintz received BA and MPA degrees from the University of Western Ontario; he also earned a diploma in fire protection technology from Ontario Fire College and master's certificates in operational risk management and public administration from Canada's York University.

NFPA is a worldwide leader in fire, electrical, building, and life safety with a mission to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and other hazards on the quality of life by providing and advocating consensus codes and standards, research, training, and education.

The Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI), an ANSI organizational member, has appointed Mike Mota as its new vice president of engineering. Mr. Mota will provide oversight of all technical activities carried out by the institute's engineering staff.

Mr. Mota previously worked as a regional structural engineer for ANSI-accredited standards developer and organizational member the Portland Cement Association (PCA). He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Concrete Industry Board of New York City and on several American Concrete Institute (ACI) and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) committees. Mr. Mota earned his BS and MS degrees in civil engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and a doctorate in structural engineering from Pennsylvania's Drexel University.

CRSI is a trade association serving the construction markets in North America.
