People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community. American National Standards Institute (ANSI) member and accredited standards developer SES-The Society for Standards Professionals has chosen Stephen Oksala as the new editor of Standards Engineering, the society's bi-monthly journal. Mr. Oksala will edit all journal content in accordance with accepted editorial standards and the SES design guide, write short and medium-length pieces, solicit feature articles, develop an annual editorial calendar, and serve as an active member of the SES Publications Committee, among other duties.
Prior to joining SES, Mr. Oksala worked as an independent consultant on issues involving standards and related topics. In addition, he was previously employed by ANSI member and accredited standards developer the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) as the society's vice president for standards.He represented SCTE's standards-related interests domestically and internationally, while also developing written materials for SCTE's standards programs and advancing the society's standards process. He currently serves as a member of ANSI's Board of Directors and as a member of the ANSI Appeals Board. He earned a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan and an MBA from Michigan's Wayne State University.
Founded in 1947, SES is a non-profit technical association dedicated to furthering the knowledge and use of standards and standardization. The society is dedicated to providing a neutral forum where standards users and developers can come together to address mutual issues, opportunities, and interests in ways that work to benefit individuals and groups involved with, or affected by, standards.
SPI - The Plastics Industry Trade Association, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, recently announced the hiring of Kim Holmes to lead its new recycling initiative. Ms. Holmes, who started work in the new position part-time in March and will transition to full-time beginning in September, is responsible for managing SPI's recycling committee, overseeing development of the new re-use and recycling program, and associated outreach, among other responsibilities.
Ms. Holmes is the principal consultant at 4R Sustainability, where she has carried out work for clients involved in the recycling and manufacturing sectors. She was previously employed as the advanced marketing manager for post-consumer recycling at the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC). She received a bachelor of arts degree in anthropology and history from the University of Maryland and a master's degree in Urban Studies from Oregon's Portland State University.
SPI, a nonprofit association founded in 1937, represents organizations employing almost 900,000 U.S. workers involved in the plastics industry. The association provides market research, legislative outreach, and other essential services to its members, while also assisting in the promotion of zero waste strategies for the plastics industry.
