ANSI to Speak at ChinaWise Business Seminar in Baltimore
Elise Owen, ANSI director of international development, will be one of the featured speakers at the upcoming ChinaWise Business Seminar held by U.S. Commercial Service of the Department of Commerce.
The event is designed for business executives whose companies are considering export trade with China or setting up operations in China to support exports from the United States. Ms. Owen and other speakers will share insights and perspectives to help companies minimize risks and maximize benefits in these transactions.

DKE Releases Annual Report on Technology Standards in Germany
The German Commission for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies of DIN and VDE (DKE) has released its 2009 Annual Report, The Future is Electrifying - Standards for a New Driving Force.
The report highlights the way standards influence technology in Germany in a number of industries. University activities, international standards organizations, DKE services and yearly figures, and other information on DKE are also included.

UL Launches Water Consumption Calculator
Underwriters Laboratories, a member and audited designator of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has launched the "Save Your Water" calculator on their website. This feature assists consumers in pledging to conserve water by making simple lifestyle changes.
After asking a few simple questions, the calculator determines the user's daily, weekly, and annual household consumption of water. Visitors can then pledge to reduce water consumption by following some or all of UL's water-saving suggestions.

AWS Website Informs Students and Teachers about the Welding Industry
The American Welding Society (AWS), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has launched a new website in collaboration with the National Center for Welding Education and Training (Weld-Ed) that details careers in the welding industry.
The website, aimed at informing students, parents, educators, counselors, and professionals, provides profiles of people in the welding industry, salary information, industry news, company profiles, and more.

NEMA Monthly Report Indicates Improved Business Environment for Electrical Equipment Manufacturers
The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has released the results of a business confidence survey in its March 2010 report. The poll indicated that electrical equipment manufacturers felt the business environment has shown marked improvement since December 2009.
According to NEMA's news release, the Electroindustry Business Confidence Index (EBCI) for current North American conditions rose sharply in March 2010 for a third straight month, and is at its highest level since May 2004.

SAE Career Fair to Offer Employment Opportunities in Engineering
SAE International, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has announced that it will hold the 2010 World Congress Career Fair on April 13-14, 2010, in Detroit.
The fair will bring together organizations looking to hire automotive engineering professionals and candidates seeking engineering jobs. SAE will also hold a career development workshop entitled Guerrilla Job Search Secrets Revealed: Michigan Edition and hold a resume clinic as part of the fair.

ASTM Applies for Accreditation for a U.S. TAG on Sustainability Criteria for Bioenergy
ASTM, a full ANSI Organizational Member, has submitted an Application for Accreditation for a proposed U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to ISO Technical Committee 248, Project committee: Sustainability criteria for bioenergy, and a request for approval as TAG Administrator. The proposed TAG intends to operate using the Model Operating Procedures for U.S. Technical Advisory Groups to ANSI for ISO Activities as contained in Annex A of the ANSI International Procedures.
