People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

The American Petroleum Institute (API), an organizational member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced the addition of Carrie Melvin Domnitch to its government relations team as director of federal relations. She will focus on issues related to industry exploration and production, including reasonable access to and regulation of onshore, offshore, and Alaskan lands.

Previously, Ms. Domnitch was the director of federal affairs for the American Chemistry Council. In 2006-2007 she served as chief of staff for Representative Thelma Drake (R-VA), and prior to that as legislative director. Her long tenure on Capitol Hill also included eight years as legislative assistant to Representative Mike Biliraks (R-Fl). She is a graduate of the University of Virginia.

API is a national trade association representing the interests of more than 470 oil and natural gas companies. API members include oil and gas producers, refiners, suppliers, pipeline operators, marine transporters, and service and supply companies. The association provides advocacy, public outreach, research, standards development, certification, and education for the industry.


ANSI organizational member and accredited standards developer the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) has named Charlotte Skidmore to the newly created position of director of energy analysis. She is responsible for technical and policy analysis of top AHAM issues such as smart grid, appliance energy standards, and other energy matters.

Ms. Skidmore formerly served as associate director of environment and regulation for the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ). Prior to that, she served as a program examiner at the White House Office of Management, and as a budget and legislative assistant in the U.S. House of Representatives. Her previous experience also includes work as an environmental engineer in both government and the private sector.

Ms. Skidmore earned a B.E. in civil and environmental engineering from Vanderbilt University and an M.B.A. from George Washington University.

AHAM is a not-for-profit trade association representing manufacturers of major, portable, and floor care home appliances, and suppliers to the industry. AHAM services on behalf of its constituents include government relations, data gathering, standards development, certification, and communications.
