Voluntary Standards Cover the Spectrum: from Recreational Boating to Water Conservation

7/24/2014

In an effort to communicate the vital role that standards play in daily life, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) publishes snapshots of the diverse standards initiatives undertaken in the global and national standards arena, many of which are performed by ANSI members and ANSI-accredited standards developers. Two of the latest selections follow:

To aid utility providers in developing effective water conservation programs, the American Water Works Association (AWWA) has published ANSI/AWWA G480-2013, Water Conservation Program Operation and Management. The new ANS describes the critical elements of establishing, implementing, and evaluating an effective water conservation program, and has the potential to impact all water users. ANSI/AWWA G480-2013 encompasses utility activities to improve water use on the supply side through distribution system management, and on the demand side through customer billing and education practices.

An ANSI organizational member and accredited standards developer, AWWA works to unite the entire water community to protect public health and welfare and provide safe, sufficient, and sustainable water for all. AWWA initiatives include advancing education, science, management, government policies, technology, and standards for the water industry.
