Did You Know? offers a quick look at the broad scope of activities underway within the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Federation of members and partners, highlighting recent accomplishments and new resources related to standardization.

ASTM Launches Online Journal on Smart and Sustainable Manufacturing Systems
ASTM International, an ANSI member and audited designator, has announced its new online journal, Smart and Sustainable Manufacturing Systems. The journal's papers will be freely accessible during its first year; the first 20 papers are now available.

The journal will provide a platform where researchers and practitioners in the fields of information science, systems engineering and engineering design, manufacturing, product life-cycle, and emerging data science can share their work. A key goal of the journal is to foster collaboration among stakeholders to support smart and sustainable manufacturing research and development.

ISO Interviews Women in Standardization for International Women's Day
To mark International Women's Day on March 8 and highlight the importance of women's engagement in standards development, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) interviewed several women leaders and experts in standardization.

Interviewees included ISO vice president Bronwyn Evans, and chairs and secretaries of technical committees. The women recommended how to get more women into standards development, the challenges and perks of working in standardization, and why women should participate in standards. They also gave advice to young women starting their careers.

"Attracting more women to standardization relies on having a higher proportion of women experts in technical fields, where today they are often under-represented. This starts by teaching girls at a young age that they can become whoever they want to be and work in any discipline they choose," said Dr. Lyne Cormier, chair of ISO TC 6, Paper, board, and pulps. "It also starts by giving all girls and young women in the world access to education from grade school to university."
