5/31/2019

People on the Move highlights the career advancements of high-level trailblazers working professionally in diverse areas of standardization, contributing every day to the strength and success of the U.S. standards and conformance community.

AdvaMed, a member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced several changes and additions to its leadership team.

Jim Jeffries joined AdvaMed as senior vice president of public affairs. In this role, he will oversee the organization's communication efforts, working with members to promote the industry's role in the health care system. Greg Crist, who formerly held the role, was promoted to chief advocacy officer.

Prior to joining AdvaMed, Mr. Jeffries was head of executive communications for the late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen at Vulcan Inc. He also served as senior communications director for U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) and the Senate health committee.

"Jim is an accomplished communicator with a breadth of experience in the halls of Congress and beyond," said Scott Whitaker, president and CEO of AdvaMed. "I'm excited to welcome him to the AdvaMed team, and I look forward to working with him to advance the policies and positions driving medical innovation."

Pat Fogarty has been named AdvaMed's vice president, assistant general counsel, and director of civil justice policy. He will leave the organization's civil justice legal policy work and related stakeholder outreach.

Previously, Mr. Fogarty was assistant general counsel and compliance officer at the Biotechnology Innovation Organization. There, he oversaw general legal and compliance support for the organization, including matters in business operations, political law, privacy, conflicts of interest, document retention, and antitrust matters.

"We're very pleased to welcome Pat to AdvaMed," said Chris White, AdvaMed chief operating officer and general counsel. "AdvaMed's legal department works to advance a transparent, predictable, and consistent legal environment, which values innovative health care solutions and patient access to the latest advancements in medical technology. Pat's extensive life sciences industry, legal, and health care experience will further strengthen AdvaMed's broad-based legal policy work and compliance leadership."

Manthan Bhatt has been appointed AdvaMed's director, state government and regional affairs.

Before joining the organization, Mr. Bhatt was the director of state government relations for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He also served as a grassroots advocacy director for the American Heart Association and director of public policy for the Colorado Academy of Family Physicians.

"We're delighted to have Manthan join the AdvaMed team and help shape our advocacy efforts in statehouses across the country," said Mr. Crist. "Manthan's extensive experience in the health care policy arena and state government relations will advance our advocacy for state-level policies that ensure patient access to life-changing medical technology innovation, and help take us to the next level."
