Updates to ANSI Appeals Procedures Available

10/30/2017

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has released revised and updated appeals procedures, publicly posted on its Sharepoint library. The revisions are reflected in the 2017 editions of the Operating Procedures of the ANSI Board of Standards Review (BSR), Executive Standards Council (ExSC), and Appeals Board.

These appeals procedures apply to the American National Standards (ANS) process and activities related to ANSI-Accredited U.S. TAGs to ISO. As well, the procedures for ANSI's final level of appeal, through the ANSI Appeals Board, address certain filings in relation to ANSI's conformity assessment programs.

The ANSI National Policy Committee (NPC), upon recommendation of the ANSI ExSC, gave final approval of the revisions to existing appeals procedures, all of which were first subject to public comment through ANSI's Standards Action. The updates address the submittal of appeals and responses, electronic transmissions, applicable filing fees, and filing specifications such as page limitations. In addition, ANSI's long-standing appeals hearing protocol is now incorporated in the various published appeals procedures. These revisions will help to ensure consistency across program areas and facilitate a reader's understanding of these ANSI appeals processes.
