Introduction to ANS Standard Practice for Certificate Programs

03/07/2016

The American National Standards Institute Certificate Accreditation Program (ANSI-CAP) will host an online workshop that will introduce the requirements of ASTM International’s American National Standard (ANS) ASTM E2659-09, Standard Practice for Certificate Programs, on March 30-31, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST. The sessions will cover terminology, significance and use of the standard, requirements for certificate issuers, and certificate program and certificate issuance and use.

Participants will gain a better understanding of the following upon workshop completion:

  • The significance and use of the standard to the education and training community, individuals, and consumers

  • Requirements of ASTM E2659-09 and the evidence needed to document that an organization meets the requirements in preparing for accreditation

  • Methods to identify and select quality certificate programs based on the requirements of ASTM E2659-09

The March 30-31 live online workshop (with lunch and session breaks) is open to corporations, government agencies, and others that are issuing “certificates” based on a training or education course(s) and stakeholders (such as HR directors) who are accepting individuals with “certificates” within their organizations. The workshop will be conducted in the WebEx Training Center platform with a toll-free teleconference or VoIP option for the audio component. Special software is not required. Workshop materials, agenda, and WebEx connection information will be sent to registered users after registration fees are received.

Participants located outside the U.S. and Canada can dial a toll phone number or use free VoIP through their computer to access the program. Please check their phone carrier rates for calls to the U.S. by telephone.

Please visit the event website for more details and to register. For a certificate program accreditation overview, see the ANSI-CAP website.

About ANSI-CAP

In 2009 ANSI-CAP selected ASTM E2659-09, Standard Practice for Certificate Programs, as the standard against which certificate programs will be evaluated for potential accreditation. The standard was developed by ASTM Committee E36 on Laboratory and Inspection Agency Accreditation. In addition to the specific requirements identified in ASTM E2659-09, ANSI-CAP also follows the accreditation process outlined in ISO/IEC 17011, General Requirements for Accreditation Bodies Accrediting Conformity Assessment Bodies.

ANSI is the official U.S. representative to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and, via the U.S. National Committee, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and is a U.S. representative to the International Accreditation Forum (IAF). ANSI accreditation is nationally and internationally recognized as a mark of quality and assures that employers can have confidence that the certificate holder has completed the prescribed course of study.
