ICC Announces 2013 Sponsored Scholarships
ANSI member and accredited standards developer the International Code Council (ICC) has released information on five 2013 scholarship programs for children of code enforcement agency personnel. The scholarships are sponsored by outside contributors and ICC Chapters across the country and managed by the ICC. The awardees, who are selected by a committee of volunteers, will receive either $1,000 or $2,500 per year for up to four years, depending on the scholarship. The following scholarships will be accepting applications for 2013:
Applicants are required to fill out only one application in order to apply to all available scholarships. All applicants must be dependent children of employees of active governmental members of the ICC and must be enrolled in an accredited or otherwise recognized postsecondary institute of learning; other requirements are listed on the pages for each individual scholarship.

MHI Solicits Involvement in Creation of First-Ever Material Handling and Logistics Roadmap
ANSI member and accredited standards developer the Material Handling Industry of America (MHIA) is seeking thought leaders and other stakeholders to take part in a series of workshops connected with the planned creation of the inaugural U.S. industry roadmap for material handling and logistics (MHL). MHI's partners in this initiative include the Center for Excellence in Logistics and Distribution (CELDi) and the Material Handling Equipment Distributors Association (MHEDA), among other groups.
The roadmap is intended to serve as a compendium of technological, market, and development priorities associated with long-term industry needs in this sector. In order to bolster the roadmap creation effort, technology and market experts are asked to take part in one of four roadmap-related events that will be held across the country. The first workshop will be held in Atlanta on April 16-17, and subsequent events will be held May 7-8 in Washington, DC, June 4-5 in Los Angeles, and June 26-27 in Chicago. Information gathered at these events will be included in the roadmap, which is expected to be released before the end of 2013.

GIA Launches Interactive Diamond Information App
ANSI organizational member the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has released an interactive app for tablets and mobile devices that provides information about diamonds, as well as other multimedia features. The app includes video content, diamond quality measurement guidelines, access to the GIA's secure online database of diamond grading reports, and a social media function allowing users to share images of diamonds they've placed on a personal wish list.
The app is available in Android, iPhone, and iPad versions. A simplified Chinese version for Android is available here. A special version designed for retailers can be downloaded at www.retailer.gia.edu.
IREC Applies to Become ANSI ASD
ANSI organizational member the Interstate Renewable Energy Council, Inc. (IREC) has submitted an application to become an ANSI accredited Standards Developer (ASD). The proposed scope is focused on workforce credentialing connected with energy efficiency and renewable energy, with particular attention paid to workforce training, education, and instruction. In addition, IREC intends to seek American National Standard (ANS) status for the IREC Standard 14732: 2013, General Requirements for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Certificate Programs; more standards in this area could be submitted for potential ANS status.
