People on the Move

4/05/2013
People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

The IAPMO Group, an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) member and audited designator, has named Scott Hamilton as the executive director of the ASSE International Chapter of IAPMO, LLC (ASSE International), formerly the American Society of Sanitary Engineering (ASSE), a longtime ANSI member and accredited standards developer. In this new position, Mr. Hamilton will be responsible for general oversight of ASSE International and will work to ensure that the chapter's activities conform to the IAPMO Group's mission.

Before being selected for the new position at ASSE International, Mr. Hamilton worked as the IAPMO Group's director of technical development. He previously served as the president of Wisconsin's Plumbers Union Local 75 and as its educational fund training director. Mr. Hamilton is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and completed the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States, Canada and Australia (UA) Instructor Training program.

The IAPMO Group was formed in 1936 as the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials to protect public health and safety by working with government and industry on the implementation of comprehensive plumbing and mechanical systems around the world.

ANSI organizational member the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI) has hired Yael Weinman to serve as its general counsel and vice president for global privacy policy. Ms. Weinman will oversee ITI's efforts to push for balanced approaches that protect privacy and personal information online without stifling data innovation.

Prior to joining ITI, Ms. Weinman was employed by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) as an attorney advisor to Commissioner Julie Brill, starting in 2011. She first joined the FTC in 2002, and served in a number of roles there, including a stint as a FTC delegate to the International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners and as FTC counsel for international consumer protection. Ms. Weinman is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and received her law degree from New York's Fordham Law School.

ITI is an advocacy organization for the information and communications technology (ICT) industry. ITI is dedicated to engaging on behalf of all of its member companies, which represent all areas of ICT including hardware, services, and software in the areas of environment and sustainability, global policy, and government relations.
