IEEE Releases Results of Global Survey on Driverless Cars
IEEE, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, conducted a global survey on opinions of driverless cars. The survey was given to members of the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems society and IEEE’s social media communities.

Survey respondents indicated that although they may be comfortable in a driverless car, they would not allow such a vehicle to transport their children. Safety and trust in technology were identified as the main roadblocks to consumer adoption. Some respondents also indicated that they believe policy and regulation is a main barrier to mass adoption of the technology. In spite of barriers, the majority of respondents believe that driverless cars will be available in the near future, with 83.7 percent of experts from the Intelligent Transportation Systems society indicating that they will be available by 2030.
