USNC Current Newsletter Focuses on Electronic Labeling as Solution for Streamlined Product Labeling

5/12/2016

Issue Details Future of E-Labels and the Sensor Environment

The U.S. National Committee (USNC) of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has published the spring 2016 issue of its quarterly newsletter, the USNC Current. The edition covers the evolution of electronic labels as they have come to replace less efficient labels and certification marks, and explores how e-labeling systems impact a number of key stakeholders in industry, including consumers, regulators, and manufacturers, as technologies advance. The issue also details how sensors are being integrated in healthcare and hazardous environment applications.

A committee of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the USNC serves as the focal point for U.S. parties who are interested in the development, promulgation, and use of globally-relevant standards for the electrotechnical industry. The Committee is also engaged in the assessment of conformance to standards, undertaking work in areas such as testing, certification, and accreditation.

As the U.S. representative to the IEC and many related regional standardization bodies, the USNC is a conduit to the global standards-setting community for technical and policy positions arising in the U.S. and brings issues from the global arena to the U.S. for review, consideration, and response. Strong U.S. participation in the IEC is critical to national competitiveness and the continued growth and innovation in U.S. electrotechnical industries.

The Current is the USNC's popular electronic newsletter, distributed to the USNC membership but freely available to all interested stakeholders. USNC members and other experts in electrotechnology and standardization contribute original content of keen interest to the U.S. standardization community.
