ANSI's Mary Saunders Recipient of Leo B. Moore Award from SES-The Society for Standards Professionals

Mary Saunders, vice president, government relations and public policy, American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is the recipient of the prestigious Leo B. Moore award, the highest honor granted by the SES-The Society for Standards Professionals for contributions and distinguished service in the field of standardization. She will receive the award during the 2018 SES Conference, which will have the theme, "Dynamic Diversity: Expanding the Future of Standardization," in Nashville, Tennessee.

The SES award is named for the late Dr. Leo B. Moore, a professor-emeritus from Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan School of Management, and was first awarded by SES in 1963 to the U.S. Secretary of Defense, the Honorable Robert S. McNamara. Recipients are recognized for accomplishments including: promotion of the principles, advantages and application of standards and standardization, leadership or service, technical or administrative, on behalf of industrial, national or international standards organizations, and development, encouragement, and support of educational programs, literature, and information relating to the field of standardization.

Ms. Saunders joined ANSI in 2017, and has been an integral liaison between ANSI and federal, state, and local government agencies, and Congressional staff. She helps identify and coordinate ANSI stakeholders and identifies and facilitates discussions regarding leading issues of importance for the conformity assessment and standardization community.

Previously, Ms. Saunders was the associate director for management resources for the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and served as a vice chair on the ANSI Board of Directors. She also previously served as the director of NIST’s Standards Coordination Office. In this capacity, she represented NIST and its significant interests in the standards and conformity assessment community, advising the NIST director and other officials throughout the administration on policy and strategy as they relate to the federal government’s role in standardization.
