People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards and conformance community.
The Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has appointed Shawn Tierney its new executive director. He will be based in Boulder, Colorado.
Mr. Tierney is a risk management expert with experience reviewing wilderness programs, camps, adventure centers, college and university programs, and independent schools. He has served as a professional mountain guide in the Himalaya, Patagonia, Europe, Alaska, and North America.
"Shawn brings a tremendous amount of outdoor industry, non-profit and association management experience to ACCT, having served in a variety of senior level positions with internationally recognized organizations such as the University of California at Berkeley, Outward Bound, the Access Fund, and the Association for Experiential Education," said Micah Henderson, ACCT Board of Directors chair. "Shawn is a growth-minded professional who can collaborate with everyone from government-based regulatory bodies to professionals in the summer camp industry."
The Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has announced the addition of two new staff members.
David Fanella has joined CRSI as a permanent staff member after a longtime working relationship with the organization. Mr. Fanella will facilitate the development and output of technical information produced by CRSI, and direct and assist technical department and member committees.
Mr. Fanella was previously a principal at a consulting structural engineering firm in Chicago. He has published many papers on reinforced concrete design, is a member of numerous American Concrete Institute (ACI) committees, and serves as an associate member on the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 7 committee.
Rob Kinchler has been appointed CRSI's greater southwest region manager. In this role, Mr. Kinchler will promote the benefits of reinforced concrete construction to the marketplace.
Mr. Kinchler is a structural engineer who previously promoted steel products for a not-for-profit technical institute and trade association. He has also worked for several organizations in the design of concrete and steel structures for power plants, paper mills, and other industrial facilities.
