USNC Announces New Officers for 2011

The U.S. National Committee (USNC) to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is pleased to announce the results of the recent elections for USNC officer positions.

James E. Matthews III, director of technical standards and standards policy at Corning Incorporated and current USNC president, has been nominated as chairman of the Standardization Management Board (SMB) and vice president of the IEC. The IEC Council is expected to endorse Mr. Matthews at the Seattle General Meeting in October. In this role, he would replace Frank K. Kitzantides of the National Electrical Manufacturers (NEMA), who is term limited. His term will begin on January 1, 2011.

Philip M. Piqueira immediately assumes the role of USNC president elect, and will automatically be elevated to the USNC presidency upon Mr. Matthews' resignation, anticipated for January 1. Mr. Piqueira is the global standards leader for the General Electric (GE) Industrial Solutions Business, and has been with GE since 1979. He is responsible for unifying and integrating the industrial solutions standards activities on a global basis and represents GE in several standards organizations including the USNC, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), Underwriters Laboratories (UL), and NEMA.

Additionally, Alec McMillan, currently USNC vice president - finance, has been elected as USNC vice president - technical, beginning January 1. Mr. McMillan is a chartered member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers in the U.K., a member of IEEE, and a senior member of International Society of Automation in the U.S. He joined Allen-Bradley/Rockwell Automation Europe in 1985 and transferred to its U.S. offices in 1989. He will replace Robert A. Williams of UL, who is term limited. Mr. McMillan will also replace Mr. Williams as the USNC's primary representative on the IEC SMB.

Lori L. Tennant will assume Mr. McMillan's role as USNC vice president - finance, beginning January 1. Ms. Tennant is the manager of industry standards - control and automation products for Schneider Electric North America. In this capacity, she is responsible for the overall coordination of company activities related to international standards, as well as the company's involvement in the USNC. Ms. Tennant is also responsible for the management of industry standards related to control and automation products.
