EPA Awards Grants for Students to Design Sustainable Technologies
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded 55 grants to teams of college students to design sustainable technologies that help the environment and economy.

The initial grants are $10,000, as Phase I of a competition amongst teams. In eight months, the teams will reveal their work. A panel of experts will then select several teams to receive more funding to further their designs, implement them in the field, or move them to the marketplace.

ASHRAE Holds Design Competition for Students
The American Society for Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), an ANSI member and audited designator, recently held a Student Design Competition that gives students hands-on experience in practical design work.

This year’s Student Design Competition featured a mock design of the Ginsburg Tower at Florida Hospital in Orlando, Florida. Three teams were awarded prizes for their work in the categories of HVAC System Design, HVAC System Selection, and Sustainable Building Design. Winning designs will be presented by the students at the 2011 ASHRAE Winter Conference.
