Attention ANSI-Accredited U.S. TAGs to ISO: 2018 Procedural Compliance Forms and 2017 TAG Annual Reports Due by February 1, 2018

12/28/2017
The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and its Procedures and Standards Administration (PSA) department wish to remind all ANSI-Accredited U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) administrators to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) that a response to the recently distributed e-mail that contained the 2018 Procedural Compliance Form/2017 TAG Annual Report Notice must be submitted no later than February 1, 2018, to the ANSI PSA department ([email protected]).

Administrators requiring additional time to respond should send an extension request to [email protected]; failure to submit by the deadline may jeopardize the TAG's accreditation status and their organization's status as the related ANSI Accredited U.S. TAG Administrator. TAGs that are not separately accredited are not required to submit their own TAG compliance form or annual report. A full list of ANSI-Accredited U.S. TAGs to ISO can be accessed at www.ansi.org/isotags.

"By seeking and maintaining ANSI-accredited status, an organization chooses to publicly commit to an open, equitable, and accessible consensus process that ensures due process and benefits the public interest," explained Lane Hallenbeck, ANSI vice president of accreditation services. "The 2018 ISO TAG Annual Compliance Form E-mail is combined with the 2017 TAG Annual Reporting format to facilitate the annual compliance notification process and the ISO TAG Annual Report submission."

2018 Procedural Compliance E-mail (Part 1)
Before submitting the 2018 ISO TAG Procedural Compliance E-mail (Part 1), please review the 2018 edition of the ANSI International Procedures ( www.ansi.org/internationalprocedures ) which includes a number of changes to reflect current practices and procedural requirements, as well as revisions announced for public comment and approved in 2017. These revisions are intended to: 1) support the assignment of ISO International Secretariats to ANSI when appropriate and with the support of the affected stakeholders (see 1.5); 2) update requirements applicable to an organization that wishes to serve as TAG Administrator for an ANSI-Accredited U.S. TAG to ISO or as an ISO International Secretariat (see 1.5, 2.3 and 2.5); and 3) clarify that in order to maintain accreditation by ANSI as an ANSI-Accredited U.S. TAG to ISO, the organization shall maintain its status as an incorporated, registered or otherwise recognized legal entity (see sections 1.5; 1.6. 2.5.2 and 2.5.5 of the ANSI International Procedures). Additional revisions to Annexes A and B of the ANSI International Procedures are intended to clarify TAG participant expectations with respect to TAG member participation and to provide related guidance to U.S. TAG Administrators and U.S. TAG Members (see sections A5.8; A5.9 and B.8).

TAG Administrators to U.S. TAGs to ISO that are accredited to use Annex A of the ANSI International Procedures are not required to revise the TAG's procedures, but must rely on and operate in compliance with the new 2018 edition of the ANSI International Procedures and Annex A contained therein.

New MoA to be Required

A new MoA directed to U.S. TAG Administrators to ANSI-Accredited U.S. TAGs to ISO will be issued by ANSI's ISO Team (ISOT) soon and will cover the terms and conditions for administering organizations. After TAG Administrators have received and reviewed the MoA, questions concerning it are to be directed to [email protected].

We invite and encourage you to register for and join one of the following webinars, during which we'll review the 2018 ANSI International Procedures and the new ISO TAG Memorandum of Agreement (MOA):

2017 TAG Annual Report Form (Part 2)
The TAG Annual Report Form is Part 2 of the Compliance E-mail that was issued to each TAG Administrator of an ANSI-Accredited US TAG to ISO.

The Annual Reporting requirements contained in the ANSI Procedures for U.S. Participation in the International Standards Activities of the ISO (ANSI International Procedures) are excerpted, in part, below:

2.5.5.2 Annual Reporting
Each U.S. TAG Administrator shall submit to ANSI a completed TAG Annual Compliance Form. In addition, an annual report shall be prepared by each U.S. TAG Administrator, describing in summary narrative form the U.S. TAG activity during the past year. The report shall be submitted to the ExSC or its designee no later than January 31 of the following year.

Please remember that all ANSI-Accredited U.S. TAGs to ISO must complete both parts of the Compliance E-mail by February 1, 2018. Please remember to complete Part 1 and Part 2 and submit both to [email protected] along with a copy of the current TAG roster. Extension requests and questions may be directed to [email protected].

An acknowledgement email will be sent to each submitter within two weeks of receipt by ANSI; please keep a copy of the submittal and the related receipt for your records.

The ANSI Executive Standards Council (ExSC) wishes to thank all ANSI-Accredited US TAG Administrators to ISO activities for their efforts throughout the year to ensure that the U.S. has a strong and effective voice in the international standardization activities of the ISO.
