People on the Move highlights the career advancements of high-level trailblazers working professionally in diverse areas of standardization, contributing every day to the strength and success of the U.S. standards and conformance community.

The American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced that Steven Saffell is its new technical director

Mr. Saffell has a background in architectural firm work, modular home design, manufactured housing, and residential and commercial fenestration. He spent three years teaching as an adjunct professor, and previously worked with Simonton Windows and Ply Gem. Mr. Saffell has held several leadership and Board committee positions for AAMA, and has extensive experience with AAMA product certification programs, code requirements, and code development.

"With 32 years of work experience, Steven's broad history will be invaluable in his role overseeing our entire technical operation," said Janice Yglesias, AAMA executive vice president. "Additionally, he brings crucial knowledge and technical expertise related to commercial fenestration systems to the association."

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), an ANSI member and audited designator, has appointed Andrea Vastis as its new senior director of public education. In this role, Ms. Vastis will oversee the organization's wildfire and home fire education programs, including Fire Prevention Week and the Firewise USA program.

Ms. Vastis joins NFPA from CVS Health, where she led product development and promoted the role of the pharmacist in the healthcare industry. She has also worked to expand the scope of CVS's MinuteClinic in the retail health setting. Previously, Ms. Vastis was an assistant professor and program coordinator for Community Health Education at Rhode Island College, where she helped transition the program from a concentration to a major. She has worked in health and safety since the 1990s, holding various roles in public health education and innovating education programs.

"The energy, insight, and expertise that Andrea brings to the table is exactly what NFPA is seeking to further our efforts to reach the public with lifesaving information," NFPA vice president of outreach and advocacy Lorraine Carli said. "Our public education programs have been instrumental in helping reduce loss from fire for more than a century. However, as the public is more complacent about fire and overloaded with lots of messages in lots of formats, it is critical that we develop innovative strategies and collaborate with others to deliver fire safety messages that resonate with the public and gets them to take action to be safer from harm. I have great confidence in Andrea's ability to lead NFPA's public education division into the future."
