People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

The Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI), an organizational member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced the promotion of J. Scott Peterson to the position of senior vice president for communications. NEI is a policy organization for the nuclear energy and technologies industry whose mission is to ensure the formation of policies that promote the beneficial uses of nuclear energy and technologies in the U.S. and around the world.

As part of the executive leadership team, Mr. Peterson will direct all NEI communications programs, including media relations, branding and advertising, editorial and creative services, public opinion research, and industry communications. He will also manage the development of the Clean and Safe Energy Coalition and other national and state-based outreach initiatives in support of the nuclear energy industry.

Mr. Peterson first joined NEI as senior director for external communications, and was promoted to vice president of communications in 2001. He led major branding programs to promote the benefits of nuclear energy and directed public affairs programs that support enactment of federal legislation, including the Energy Policy Act of 2005.

Before joining NEI, Mr. Peterson was director of communications for the American Nuclear Energy Council, one of three organizations merged in 1994 to form NEI. He also served as a senior media relations representative at Illinois Power and was a reporter and columnist at newspapers in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

Mr. Peterson received a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has completed the Reactor Technology Program for Utility Executives at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

ANSI organizational member and accredited standards developer PLASA has announced the appointment of Richard Cadena as assistant technical standards manager for PLASA's North American office. He will also serve as technical editor for Lighting&Sound America, Lighting&Sound International, and Protocol magazines, published by PLASA's media division.

Mr. Cadena has more than 25 years of experience in the entertainment technology industry, including his most recent role as editor of PLSN magazine. He previously served in various professional lighting design roles at High End Systems and Martin Professional, in addition to extensive freelance work.

He has volunteered on the Entertainment Services and Technology Association (ESTA) - now PLASA - Technical Standards Committee, and is an Entertainment Technician Certification Program (ETCP) certified entertainment electrician. He has authored four books on theater lighting.

PLASA is an international membership body for those who supply technologies and services to the event, entertainment, and installation industries. The association acts as a worldwide voice for the industry, providing a wide range of business resources, technical support, and commercial benefits to its members.
