Voluntary Standards Cover the Spectrum: from Firefighting Equipment for Boats to Mobile Commerce Security

10/16/2018

In an effort to communicate the vital role that standards play in daily life, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) publishes snapshots of the diverse standards initiatives undertaken in the global and national standards arena, many of which are performed by ANSI members and ANSI-accredited standards developers. Two of the latest selections follow:

Firefighting Equipment for Boats
The convenience of conducting financial transactions over mobile devices brings with it many security and management challenges. Mobile commerce has the security vulnerabilities of both the internet and the wireless environment, and businesses working with mobile commerce must bring together the industries of financial services, mobile telecommunications, and mobile platforms manufacturing. A new American National Standard offers safer and more efficient implementations of mobile commerce to address these needs. ANSI X9.112-3-2018, Wireless Management and Security - Part 3: Mobile, provides guidance on the management security requirements for implementations of mobile commerce that apply to manufacturers, application developers, and mobile financial service providers. The standard was developed by Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) X9, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer.

ASC X9 creates and maintains standards that improve payments, protect financial and securities information, and support the financial services industry. The organization focuses its work on the current and future needs of the financial services industry, and promotes the use of financial industry standards in the U.S. and abroad.
