NAESB Announces Completion of Energy Industry Registration Project
ANSI member the North American Energy Standards Board (NAESB) recently announced that it has concluded the last phase of a multi-year project to update and assume ownership of the Electric Industry Registry (EIR), the central information resource used for the electronic scheduling of power and related financial transactions in the U.S. wholesale electric power market. The NAESB assumed control of the EIR from ANSI member and accredited standards developer the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC).

The EIR, which was previously known as the Transmission System Information Network (TSIN), originally was responsible for providing support for scheduling transactions associated with the Eastern Interconnection, the bulk electrical system covering the eastern section of the U.S. power grid. However, following the recent update, the EIR also supports transactions in the western section of the grid, establishing it as a central repository for this type of information in the U.S.
