UL Webinar to Discuss Functional Safety Compliance Tips for Energy Systems
Underwriters Laboratories (UL), an ANSI member and audited designator, is hosting a free webinar providing listeners with functional safety compliance guidance for energy systems.
Energy systems, including electric vehicles, hoverboards, energy storage systems, and grid-interactive inverters, often contain embedded electronics and software that perform functions to assure safe operation. Functional Safety Compliance Tips for Energy Systems will educate listeners on functional safety and how it is assessed, as well as how to determine if a functional safety evaluation is needed. Presenters will also discuss references to functional safety in product standards, and hardware and software requirements.

ANSI Members Offer Guidance for Disaster Relief and Recovery
NEMA and the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI), both ANSI members and accredited standards developers, have published information to help in disaster relief and recovery following the recent devastating floods in Louisiana.
This month, NEMA updated two guides that assist in disaster relief: Evaluating Fire- and Heat-Damaged Electrical Equipment and Evaluating Water-Damaged Electrical Equipment. The organization supplied hundreds of copies to building code officials, emergency management officials, and electrical professionals in Louisiana. Copies were also sent to professionals in California to assist in fire recovery efforts. Learn more in NEMA's news item.
AHRI published a list of tips for homeowners facingthe flood's aftermath, advising them to take safety precautions with their heating and cooling systems. The tips outline the potential damage that could occur to heat pumps and air conditioning systems, water heating systems, and ductwork. AIIM On-Demand Webinar Provides Tips on Getting More Information from Data
AIIM, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has posted a free pre-recorded webinar on how to get more value out of the data that an organization captures.
Listeners will learn how to extract knowledge from documents, and how to capture meaningful data from website visits and searches. The presenter will also outline how intelligent capture can help guide better processes and return on investment.

CSA Offers Dorm Safety Tips for College-Bound Students
CSA Group, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has published a list of tips for safe dorm room and apartment living. They include:
Check school rules to determine if cooking devices and appliances are allowed in dorm rooms.
Make sure dorm rooms and apartments have a working carbon monoxide alarm and smoke detector with the appropriate certification marks.
Don't overload circuits with too many appliances and electronics. Ensure that extension cords are heavy enough for the intended load. If the cord or plug becomes hot, the circuit may be overloaded and cause a fire.
Take care when using space heaters. Do not use them to dry clothes, heat food, or warm a bed, and place them away from flammable materials such as curtains or bedding.

Parenteral Drug Association Applies for ANSI Accredited Standards Developer Status
The Parenteral Drug Association (PDA), has submitted an application for accreditation as an ANSI Accredited Standards Developer (SDO) and proposed operating procedures for documenting PDA-sponsored ANS. PDA's proposed scope of standards activity is pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical product development and manufacturing practice standards in aseptic processing and sterile manufacturing, manufacturing techniques and technologies, analytical techniques and technologies, quality management and quality systems, regulatory science and GMP and GDP compliance, manufacturing systems (continuous manufacturing, single use systems, automation and robotics, use and integration of electronic data hardware and software to control and document processes), pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical product categories [combination products (drug/device delivery systems), biologics, biosimilars, gene and cell therapy, and precision/personalized medicine], and supply chain integrity (cold chain, track and trace/serialization, pedigree).
