3/08/2019

People on the Move highlights the career advancements of high-level trailblazers working professionally in diverse areas of standardization, contributing every day to the strength and success of the U.S. standards and conformance community.

The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has appointed Robert Burroughs as its new senior vice president of education. In this role, Mr. Burroughs will oversee AAMI's educational portfolio, including industry training courses for medical device manufacturers, certifications for healthcare technology management and sterilization professionals, and AAMI's annual conference.

Mr. Burroughs is the founder of Trainingwerx, a Northern Virginia-based learning services company. Previously, he was vice president at Learnsomething, where he oversaw their learning management solutions business unit. He was also a principal and co-founder of consulting firm Genesys Solutions, and director of client services for eLearning company Quisic.

"Robert brings broad and deep experience in professional education programs, learning technologies, and e-learning/media production, as well as proficiency in management, strategic planning, and sales," said AAMI president and CEO Rob Jensen. "He is knowledgeable, engaging, and eager to learn more about AAMI's mission, members, and current education offerings. We are excited to welcome him to the team."

The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has named Edward Seglias as general counsel. Mr. Seglias replaces David Ratterman, who retired at the end of 2018 after serving as AISC's general counsel for 30 years.

Mr. Seglias, partner at Cohen Seglias Pallas Greenhall & Furman PC, is a highly regarded trial lawyer with extensive experience in construction disputes. Throughout the course of his career, he has successfully tried many multi-million dollar construction and commercial litigation trials. He is also a lecturer on the topics of bidding law, delay claims, scope claims, and project management. He has developed seminars for trade organizations on subjects including construction project documentations and contract terms, and is recognized on the Best Lawyers in America List for Construction Law and Litigation.

"I'm excited to be working with Ed and Cohen Seglias to meet the challenge of succeeding David Ratterman, who has served AISC for nearly a third of our history," said AISC president Charlie Carter. "We're off to a great start both in starting our traditional practices and also in identifying new ideas and opportunities."
