Movers and Shakers highlights the career advancements and accomplishments of leaders in diverse areas of standardization, contributing to the strength and success of the U.S. standards and conformance system.
The Global Electronics Association has appointed Martin Scaglione as its chief operating officer (COO). He will lead the organization’s strategic execution and profit and loss (P&L) management across the association’s core business units: standards, education, and technology.
A global enterprise executive, Scaglione has extensive experience leading complex organizations through growth, transformation, and operational reinvention across sectors including manufacturing, electronics, workforce, EdTech, SaaS, and nonprofits. He has served as COO, president and COO, CEO, founder, and enterprise P&L owner.
Most recently, Scaglione served as chief mission officer at Goodwill Industries International, where he directed mission strategy and operations across more than 700 Opportunity Centers and 4,300 retail locations. In addition to managing significant public and private grants, he launched national accelerator programs and built partnerships with major employers including Walmart, Google, Microsoft, and Accenture.
“Martin brings the rare combination of enterprise discipline, entrepreneurial drive, and mission alignment that will help us scale our benefits to members globally,” said John W. Mitchell, Global Electronics Association president and CEO. “He has repeatedly demonstrated the ability to translate strategy into execution, modernize operating models, and build high-performing teams. As we continue expanding our standards leadership, education portfolio, and technology initiatives, Martin’s experience will be instrumental in strengthening how we serve our members.”
SAE International has appointed Dan Sweeney as its chief technology officer (CTO). He will lead the organization’s technology strategy, directing product development, data and analytics, and business infrastructure to better serve SAE’s global community of engineers, researchers, and mobility professionals.
Sweeney has over 25 years of experience designing and developing commercial products across diverse sectors, including medical devices for people with disabilities, logistics optimization in warehouse environments, and data-driven clinical applications for surgeons.
“Technology plays a critical role in how SAE delivers trusted standards, knowledge, and learning to the mobility ecosystem,” said Jay Solomond, interim CEO of SAE International. “Dan brings a combination of deep technical expertise, thoughtful leadership, and a strong commitment to people and purpose. His experience and values align closely with SAE’s mission, and we are excited to welcome him as we continue to evolve and expand impact across the mobility industry.”
Sweeney holds bachelor’s degrees in mathematics from Yale University and in computer engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. He served for two years in the United States Peace Corps.
