ANSI Announces Standardization Course Schedule for 2010

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has announced the 2010 schedule for its education and training courses on domestic and international standards activities. The schedule is now available on ANSI's training schedule page.

Each of the following three courses will be held twice in 2010:

  • Course 287, The American Way: The American National Standard (ANS) Development Process
    March 31, 2010, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. [register here]
    October 5, 2010, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. [register here]

Attendees will gain a greater understanding of the practical application of the American National Standard (ANS) development process and procedures, and the value of ANSI accreditation. Discussions will center on why U.S. voluntary consensus standards are important, types of accreditation, all the stages in the standards development process, and how to make the most of participation in standards development. This course is an excellent "nuts and bolts" preparation for those who are considering becoming an ANSI-accredited standards developer.

  • Course 205, ISO Secretariat Operations: Taking the Secret out of the Secretariat
    June 3, 2010, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. [register here]
    October 7, 2010, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. [register here]

This course will help stakeholders to obtain insight and advice on every aspect of successful International Organization for Standardization (ISO) committee management. Attendees will increase their understanding of the international standards development process and alternative deliverables, and learn effective management techniques. They will also acquire knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of all committee officers; hear about ANSI's relationship to ISO and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC); learn about requirements for ISO committee meetings; and gain helpful hints on preparation for and conduct at meetings. Also covered are special issues for Secretariats, including a review of new ISO electronic management tools.

  • Course 208, The Operating Procedures of U.S. TAGs to ISO: Strengthening the U.S. Voice in International Standardization
    June 4, 2010, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. [register here]
    October 6, 2010, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. [register here]

In this course, participants will explore the processes and operating procedures of ANSI-accredited U.S. technical advisory groups (TAGs) to ISO. They will also learn about accreditation, membership, voting requirements, and rules for developing positions, and find out how to be an effective international delegate at ISO committee meetings.

ANSI also offers accreditation workshops; for more information on these courses, click here or view the complete education and training schedule.
