One of the key tasks being pursued by the PEG is to review the current situation and consider the possibility of alternative models of standards development operations and participation in ISO. Input on this task will be collected from a number of sources in 2010, including national standards bodies, selected international liaison organizations, and selected ISO committees. Input will be centered on the following general questions:
Do you think that there are specific subjects (e.g., emerging technologies, standards supporting public policies, standards addressing subjects such as societal issues, fraud, or security) that would benefit from different operational and participation models than the traditional ISO approaches and model?
If yes, which subjects and why? If no, please explain why not.
If yes, what would you recommend as important elements of how alternative operational and participation models should work?
All ISO national standards bodies are invited to provide their national responses on these questions by October 31, 2010. As the U.S. member body to ISO, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is collecting input on these questions from U.S. stakeholders through an online survey.
All ANSI members and constituents are invited to submit any comments that they may have on these questions via the online survey by close of business on Friday, July 30, 2010.
Comments will be collected and considered in the development of a final set of ANSI comments that will be reviewed and approved by the ANSI ISO Council (AIC) at its September 1, 2010, meeting for submittal to ISO.
Questions can be directed to Steven P. Cornish, ANSI senior director of international policy ([email protected]; 212.642.4969).
