APLU Posts Video of Presidents' Symposium on the Future of Collegiate Education
The Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU) has posted a video of the Presidents' Symposium on the Future of Collegiate Education on their website, bringing the presentations from the April event to all interested stakeholders.

The symposium consisted of four panels addressing core questions facing constituents of higher education. Attendees engaged in a proactive and wide-ranging discussion of topics including technology in the classroom, open-source educational materials, budgetary challenges, and more.

CEN-CENELEC Annual Meeting Held on June 2
The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) sixth annual meeting was held on June 2, 2010, in Malta. Attendees discussed the evolution of European standardization over the past decade, and responded to standardization objectives and goals set by Europe for 2020.

Speakers and panelists from the private and public sector recognized the key achievements that standardization has made in support of industry's competitiveness and of European policies.

Free Webinar Provides Tips to Prevent Recreational Water Illnesses
NSF International, a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and PPG Industries have developed a free webinar to help educate public health officials on recreational water illnesses.

Advanced technology in the pool industry can treat water and limit the spread of disease; however, not all pool operators or environmental health officials are aware of these treatment technologies. This free webinar provides causes of and statistics on water illnesses, and gives tips on what environmental health officials need to look for when developing public health codes.

New Report Suggests Opportunities for Public Sector Promotion of Green Buildings
A new report released by Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), both ANSI members, states that the Obama Administration is authorized to play a more active and supportive role in progressing the energy efficiency and sustainability of America's multifamily and commercial building stock.

Using Executive Authority to Achieve Greener Buildings: A Guide for Policymakers to Enhance Sustainability and Efficiency in Multifamily Housing and Commercial Buildings presents a wide variety of options for improved sustainability that the Obama Administration could begin implementing immediately without having to seek new funds or authority from Congress.

HIMSS and ASQ Call for Case Studies
The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and the American Society for Quality (ASQ) are issuing a call for real-world examples and personal stories about how organizations leveraged health IT to improve patient safety.

The case studies are part of the Stories of Success program, which recognizes healthcare organizations that have leveraged health IT to demonstrate fulfillment of national priorities recommended by the National Priorities Partnership (NPP) and the Joint Commission's (TJC) National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG).
