NIST Restructures Laboratories to Promote New Mission
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is restructuring its laboratories in accordance with its new mission-based structure.

According to a NIST release, the new structure will allow more day-to-day operational decisions to be made by the major laboratory units, and will also improve interdisciplinary research by making it easier to form research groups with the needed expertise. The change will provide greater accountability by ensuring that individual laboratories are responsible for all major products and services that meet NIST's specific mission authorities, from the research to develop them to the delivery of products and services to customers.

NRA Offers Tips for Reducing Garbage Volume in Restaurants and Dining Halls
The National Restaurant Association (NRA) is offering a simple process for restaurants and dining halls to figure out how the amount of garbage produced can be reduced, leading to reductions in expenses and environmental damage.

The process begins with a look at what items end up in the garbage each day. Then, conduct a food-waste audit, noting exactly what food goes to waste, and in what quantities. Next, audit non-food waste to identify recyclable items. Finally, involve customers by asking them to cooperate with your reduced waste plans.
