People on the Move

11/24/2010
People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), an organizational member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has named Stephen P. Jacobs as senior director for international business policy. His responsibilities will include overseeing the NAM's investment, international standards, and international intellectual property protection advocacy and assisting members in formulating approaches to solving trade or investment problems.

Mr. Jacobs joins the NAM after a three-decade career with the U.S. Department of Commerce's (DOC) International Trade Administration (ITA), where his most recent position was deputy assistant secretary for market access and compliance. He also served as the acting assistant secretary for market access and compliance in the Obama Administration, where he directed the DOC's efforts in opening foreign markets for U.S. exports and investment.

Among the highlights of Mr. Jacobs's career is his experience negotiating and implementing the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). He also played a key role in the current Doha Round of World Trade Organization (WTO) negotiations and bilateral free trade agreements with Australia, Chile, Peru, Singapore, and others.

The NAM is an industrial trade association representing 11,000 manufacturing companies in all 50 states. The organization's mission is to be a powerful voice for the U.S. manufacturing community and the leading advocate for a policy agenda that helps manufacturers create jobs. The NAM works toward sensible government policies that reduce the cost of production and tear down barriers to exports.

NSF International Strategic Registrations (NSF-ISR), a division of ANSI organizational member and accredited standards developer NSF International, has appointed William Niedzwiecki as president and general manager. Mr. Niedzwiecki will coordinate efforts to expand NSF-ISR management system registration services in the U.S. and globally.

Mr. Niedzwiecki previously served as president of assurance services at SAI Global, where he directed training, consulting, and audit services for companies seeking registration to international standards. Prior to that he served as vice president of business operations and then president and CEO at CRS Registrars, expanding its business globally by multiplying product lines to include registration to internationally recognized standards for the environmental, automotive, and aerospace industries.

Mr. Niedzwiecki holds a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Toledo.

NSF-ISR offers a portfolio of management systems registration solutions to meet the demands of the global marketplace and is accredited by the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB). NSF-ISR is also accredited by ANSI to offer greenhouse gas verification and chain of custody (CoC) certification in foresty. NSF-ISR's parent company, NSF International, is a not-for-profit organization that certifies products and writes standards for food, water, and consumer goods to minimize adverse health effects and protect the environment.
