(TIA), an accredited standards developer and organizational member of the American National Standards Institute
(ANSI), has announced the appointmrnt of Alan P. Kaufman
as senior vice president, technical affairs. In this newly created position he will lead the association's continuing development and implementation of technical policies and strategies relating to toy safety, the environment, supply chain issues, factory processes, and other related matters. Mr. Kaufman previously served as vice president for global product safety and regulatory affairs at Toys"R"Us, Inc. He spent more than a decade prior directing production, sourcing, and technical services within the Walt Disney Company and its affiliated companies. Earlier in his career he held technical and production positions at a number of toy manufacturers, including Mattel, Knickerbocker, and Coleco. He is a graduate of UCLA with a degree in biology and organic chemistry. TIA is a not-for-profit trade association for producers and importers of toys and youth entertainment products sold in North America, representing over 550 companies that account for 85 percent of domestic toy sales. TIA developed the first comprehensive toy safety standard more than 30 years ago, and works with government, consumers, and industry on ongoing programs to ensure safe and fun play.
