X9 Collection of Financial Standards Available via Site License
The Accredited Standards Committee X9 (ASC X9) is offering a collection of standards for the financial services industry through a customized site license on ANSI's webstore. ANSI's site license service has been embraced by organizations like X9 for its ability to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
An ANSI-accredited standards developer since 1984, ASC X9 develops, maintains, and promotes standards for the financial services industry in order to facilitate the delivery of financial services and products. ASC X9 also serves as the secretariat for the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 68, Banking and Financial.

ANSI Accreditation Featured at ASTD Annual Conference
On May 21 - 25, ANSI's Certificate Program Accreditation Program (ANSI-CAP) team joined 8,500 workplace learning and development professionals at the American Society for Training & Development's (ASTD) annual conference, which featured more than 250 educational and industry expert-led sessions.
The U.S. Army Combat Readiness and Safety Center's Dr. Brenda Miller led an educational session that highlighted the Center's experience in applying for and receiving ANSI accreditation. According to Dr. Miller, the ANSI accreditation process supports an organization's desire to sustain competitive certificate programs that meet and exceed industry standards. Dr. Miller shared how voluntary evaluation and audits help sustain accountability of and improvement for certificate programs.
The U.S. Army Combat Readiness and Safety Center's CP 12 Safety Professional Certificate was awarded ANSI accreditation in 2010 and currently meets ANSI/ASTM 2659-09, Standard Practice for Certificate Programs. The Center has subsequently submitted an application for two additional certificate programs to be evaluated against the ANSI/ASTM 2650-09 Standard.
USGBC and Better Homes and Gardens to Launch $25,000 Green Home Makeover Sweepstakes
ANSI member and accredited standards developer the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has partnered with Better Homes and Gardens to launch a $25,000 sweepstakes promoting green, energy efficient living.
Through August 15, consumers can enter to win a $25,000 home makeover. The sweepstakes presents actionable tips and advice on green living from USGBC's GreenHomeGuide.com and Better Homes and Gardens, teaching readers everything from ways to cut energy and water consumption, to strategies for improving air quality.

ICC Helps Rebuild Communities Hit By Tornadoes
The International Code Council (ICC) is extending a helping hand to the communities and jurisdictions devastated by the recent wave of destructive tornados and severe weather outbreaks.
The Council will work with organizations including ANSI member and accredited standards developer the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and others to apply lessons learned from these tragic events to enhance the science of building safety and to create better buildings and safer communities.
The ICC is an ANSI member and accredited standards developer dedicated to building safety, fire prevention, and energy efficiency. ICC codes and standards serve as the basis for construction of federal properties around the world, and as a reference for nations outside the United States.

NIBS, IAPMO Submit Consultative Council Report on Building to President Obama
The National Institute on Building Sciences (NIBS), with critical input from ANSI member and accredited standards developer the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO), has submitted a collection of findings and recommendations on high-level issues impacting the building community to President Barack Obama. The 2010 Consultative Council Report will subsequently be delivered by the President to Congress.
IAPMO director of special programs Pete DeMarco facilitated the Consultative Council's topical committee on water and energy efficiency - one of six committees formed to examine top-level issues. Among other recommendations, the committee on water and energy efficiency urged the government to develop widely acceptable energy and water efficiency metrics to be used in developing future codes, standards, and efficiency programs. The committee also called for investment in energy and water-related infrastructure to create jobs, the development of a national water strategy, and the continued funding of labeling incentive programs like Energy Star™ and WaterSense™.
