ANSI and Shanghai Association for Standardization to Hold Seminar in Shanghai on Economic Globalization and Standardization

10/31/2011
This year, China celebrates the 10th anniversary of its accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO). The past ten years have witnessed significant progress in China, including strengthening its global cooperation, enhancing its integration into the world economy, and rapidly increasing its participation in international trade.

One of the key challenges facing companies and policymakers today remains the coordination between economic globalization and standardization; considerations for stakeholders include implementing a more extensive policy of openness and transparency, while advancing economic development and international trade.

In order to encourage more active industry participation in international standardization and address common issues related to globalization and standardization, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has partnered with the Shanghai Association of Standardization (SAS) - a leading professional society for standardization in China - to organize an international seminar on November 16 in Shanghai. To be held in conjunction with the China International Industry Fair, the seminar will include speakers from U.S. and Chinese government, standards developing organizations, and other experts.

Presentations will include topics such as the influence of the WTO Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Agreement on global trade and China's efforts to implement the agreement, case studies on the role of standardization in facilitating innovation and economic development, and industry experiences.

The seminar will be held on November 16, 2011, at the Shanghai Hengshan Hotel. Attendance is free of charge, but participants are requested to register by sending the name, title, organization, and contact information of the participant to ANSI at [email protected]. A formal agenda for the seminar is forthcoming.
