People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community. The
Manufacturing Institute has announced the appointment of
Jennifer McNelly as president, effective April 2012, succeeding outgoing president Emily DeRocco. Ms. McNelly will drive an agenda focused on improving and expanding manufacturing in the United States through education, innovation, and research. The Manufacturing Institute is the non-profit affiliate of the
National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), an organizational member of the
American National Standards Institute(ANSI). Ms. McNelly has extensive experience in workforce development, employer engagement, and business, and previously served as the Manufacturing Institute's senior vice president. She is the chief architect of one of the organization's flagship initiatives, the NAM-Endorsed Manufacturing Skills Certification System, which is building the next generation of skilled manufacturing talent. Prior to joining the Manufacturing Institute, Ms. McNelly was a member of the Senior Executive Service (SES) for the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment, and Training Administration (ETA). She also served as the director of the Business Relations Group for ETA, managing the President's High Growth Job Training Initiative and the Community Based Job Training Grants. She previously served as senior vice president of Strategic Partnerships, LLC, an international consulting firm specializing in assisting Fortune 500 corporations to build strategic partnerships with government agencies in support of workforce development. Ms. McNelly is a member of the ANSI Personnel Certification Accreditation Committee, the Precision Metalforming Association (PMA) Education Foundation, and the Jobs for DC Graduates Board of Directors. The Manufacturing Institute is the 501 (c) 3 affiliate of the National Association of Manufacturers. As a non-partisan organization, the Institute is committed to delivering leading-edge information and services to the nation's manufacturers. The Institute focuses on developing human capital strategies through education reform and workforce development, conducting applied research to provide critical information to public policy makers on challenges and opportunities for today's industry, and advancing the innovation capacity of manufacturers operating in a global market.
