Register Now for ANSI-CEA Workshop on Standards IBR Issues and Industry/Government Cooperation

11/26/2012

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) will co-host a workshop on issues surrounding the use of private-sector standards by government agencies. Entitled Addressing National Priorities through Standards, the free event will be held on December 11, 2012, at CEA headquarters in Arlington, VA, and is open to all interested stakeholders.

In a series of interactive panel discussions, industry and government leaders will explore the opportunities and challenges associated with identifying - and referencing - private-sector standards in federal regulations. The first panel will focus on the need for public-private cooperation and coordination in standards development. Panel two will set out the barriers to government participation in industry standards setting and adoption, and how they can be diminished. The final panel will focus on solutions for a regulatory process that will facilitate government and industry cooperation.

Industry case studies highlighting the federal use of private-sector standards will be reviewed. Mechanisms to improve the private-sector standards developer's responsiveness to the needs of federal regulators and agencies will also be explored.

The workshop is part of the ongoing exploration of the government's participation in standards development, including whether and how the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) should consider supplementing OMB Circular A-119 to improve government and industry collaboration.

The workshop will take place on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, from 9 am to 2:30 pm in the CEA Grand Conference Room (1919 South Eads Street, Arlington, VA). Online registration is available here. For more information, visit the event website or contact Catrina Akers at [email protected].
