ANSI Encourages ISO and IEC Participants to Utilize This Free Resource
In an effort to ensure that U.S. interests are effectively represented at international standardization fora, the
American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has released an updated
Guide for U.S. Delegates to Meetings of ISO and the IEC. All individuals who serve or are interested in serving as delegates at
International Organization for Standardization (ISO) or
International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) technical committee (TC), subcommittee (SC), working group (WG), or other international standardization meetings are strongly encouraged to
download the electronic document here. The Guide for Delegates provides a brief overview of ISO and IEC structure and operations, and the critical importance of strong U.S. participation at every level. A detailed but user-friendly summary of the ISO and IEC standards development processes is presented, leading into a how-to guide for successful U.S. representation at international standardization meetings. Topics covered include:
- The role of ANSI, of the U.S. National Committee (USNC) of the IEC, and of U.S. Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs)
- The structure and operations of ISO and IEC Technical Committees (TCs), Subcommittees (SCs), Project Committees (PCs), and Working Groups (WGs)
- Meeting preparation, protocol, and reporting practices
- Reference documents, contact information, and other resources
ANSI also invites U.S. delegates and other interested parties to make use of a free multimedia training course,
U.S. Delegates to International Activities: Roles and Responsibilities. Available on ANSI's
StandardsLearn.org website, the course outlines the requirements for participants in international standardization meetings and provides advice on how to best prepare for the roles and responsibilities expected of meeting participants.
