New ISO Project Committee Formed on Management Systems for Educational Organizations

10/10/2013
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has approved the creation of a new project committee (PC) that will focus on management systems specific to educational organizations.

Secretariat duties for the new group, ISO PC 288, Educational organizations management systems - Requirements with guidance for use, will be performed by the South Korean member body to ISO, the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS).

What is a management system?
According to ISO, a management system describes the set of procedures an organization needs to follow in order to meet its objectives.

In other words, when an organization systemizes how it does things, this is known as a management system.

ISO has developed a number of management system standards, each focusing on different issues affecting global business:

  • ISO 9000 family, Quality management
  • ISO 14000 family, Environmental management
  • ISO 22000, Food safety management
  • ISO 50001, Energy management
  • As the U.S. member body to ISO, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is seeking organizations interested in serving as the administrator of a U.S. technical advisory group (TAG) to ISO PC 288, or to participate in the TAG's activities. The U.S. TAG will be responsible for advising ANSI on voting positions relevant to proposed and in-development standards, and carrying out detailed discussions related to these documents. All stakeholder organizations in relevant fields are strongly encouraged to take part in the U.S. TAG and its activities.

To express interest in participating in or administrating the U.S. TAG to ISO PC 288, or for more information, please contact ANSI via email at [email protected].
