People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

The Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI), an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) member, recently named Joe W. Yarbrough as its next president. Mr. Yarbrough replaces longtime CRI present Werner Braun, who retired on March 31 after thirteen years of service.

Mr. Yarbrough has more than 40 years of experience in the carpet industry and previously worked as senior vice president for advanced manufacturing engineering at Mohawk Industries. His other work experience includes time as vice president for manufacturing at Aladdin Mills, as well as multiple positions at Coronet Industries. Mr. Yarbrough earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Alabama's Auburn University.

The CRI is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the carpet industry and its customers by providing information about carpets and rugs and supporting long term efforts to promote balance between the industry's financial health and the world's environmental needs.

ANSI member and accredited standards developer the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) has announced the hiring of William Smith as its senior director of technical and regulatory affairs. In this newly created position, Mr. Smith will serve as a resource on technical issues to ASPE staff and members and will represent ASPE in code and standards-related work, among other duties.

Prior to joining ASPE, Mr. Smith worked for more than 30 years at Jay R. Smith Mfg. Co. After joining Jay R. Smith in 1981 as a plumbing product designer, he rose to the position of senior sales engineer, before becoming engineering manager and then regional sales manager. Mr. Smith was elected to ASPE's College of Fellows in 2012.

ASPE is an international organization dedicated to the advancement of the science of plumbing engineering and the professional advancement of skilled individuals focusing on the design and inspection of plumbing systems. The society has more than 6,000 members in its 61 state, provincial, and local chapters throughout the U.S. and Canada, as well as in additional international chapters.
