ISO TC 163 and its SCs (SC 1, Test and measurement methods; SC 2, Calculation methods; and SC 3, Thermal insulation products) are responsible for the development of International Standards on topics connected to thermal and hygrothermal performance of materials and systems in the built environment. This work covers issues associated with thermal insulation materials, insulation of installed equipment, and other related building components, elements, and products that are used in new and existing buildings, as well infrared detection of heat and moisture irregularities in buildings and calculation methods for dynamic thermal characteristics, among other topics.
As the U.S. member body to ISO, ANSI accredits U.S. TAGs to develop and transmit U.S. positions on ISO technical activities. ANSI member and audited designator ASHRAE serves as the ANSI-accredited administrator of the U.S. TAGs to ISO TC 163 and its SCs. These U.S. TAGs are currently seeking experts and other stakeholders from industry, government, academia, nonprofit groups, and other organizations that are interested in actively participating in this important ISO technical activity.
To learn more about ISO TC 163, its SCs, and the associated U.S. TAGs, or to express interest in joining one of the TAGs, please contact Stephanie Reiniche, ASHRAE manager of standards, via email at sreiniche@ashrae.org.
