American National Standards Institute (ANSI) member and accredited standards developer the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) has named James F. Lynch as the organization's new editor-in-chief. Beginning November 1, 2014, Mr. Lynch will oversee ASA's publications, including the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America.
Mr. Lynch currently serves as a senior scientist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), where he has been on staff since 1982. His work at WHOI focuses on acoustical oceanography and ocean acoustics. Prior to joining WHOI, he worked in the Applied Research Laboratories at the University of Texas at Austin. Mr. Lynch received his bachelor of science degree in physics from New Jersey's Stevens Institute of Technology, and his doctorate in physics from the University of Texas at Austin.
ASA is an international scientific society focused on work associated with the study of acoustics and the science of sound and sound technology. It represents 7,500 members worldwide and is the publisher of Acoustics Today magazine, as well as numerous books and standards relating to acoustics.
The Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute (PMMI), an ANSI-accredited standards developer and member, announced the hiring of Gerardo Barajas as its director of EXPO PACK Events. In that role, Mr. Barajas will oversee PMMI's Latin American trade shows, EXPO PACK Mexico, and EXPO PACK Guadalajara.
Before joining PMMI, Mr. Barajas worked as senior consultant at Hays, general director of Intermoda, a fashion trade show, and as key account manager at Mexicana Airlines, among other positions. He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Mexico's Western Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESO).
PMMI is a trade association representing the interests of more than 600 packaging and processing companies. It works to bring together buyers and sellers in this important space through its trade shows, networking events, and educational programs.
