People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards and conformance community.

Christopher G. Chute, M.D., Dr. P.H., has announced his retirement as the chair of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 215, Health informatics, effective at the end of the year. On January 1, 2015, Dr. Chute will join the Johns Hopkins University as the Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of Health Informatics; chief health research information officer for the Hopkins enterprise; professor in the Schools of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing; and professor of computer science by courtesy in the School of Arts and Sciences. He will also take on the responsibility of creating a new Institute for Biomedical Informatics across the health-related schools.

ISO TC 215 focuses on standardization of health informatics to facilitate the coherent and consistent interchange and use of health-related data, information, and knowledge to support and enable all aspects of the health system. Dr. Chute has made tremendous contributions as TC 215 chair on behalf of the U.S. and the committee, and for two decades as an active participant since the original TC 215 meeting in 1994. His multiple roles at Johns Hopkins will not allow him the time he feels is needed to function effectively as TC 215 chair.

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) congratulates Dr. Chute on this prestigious appointment, and sincerely thanks him for his dedicated service to international standardization.

The leadership of the ANSI-accredited U.S. Technical Activity Group (TAG) to TC 215 is proceeding with plans for a chair designate, to be followed by the designation of a new TC 215 chair, pending ANSI's approval. ANSI member the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) serves at the U.S. TAG administrator; for more information, contact AHIMA.
